English: Ankle bracelets - Ivory Coast
These bracelets were worn by noble women, sometimes by traditional healers, mid-twentieth century. The bells had a musical function but also aesthetic and ostentatious. Their size and number indicated the social status of the person. Bracelets three or five bells should belong to unmarried girls.
Former collection of Marshal Gallieni. Donated to the Museum of Toulouse in 1883

Ces bracelets étaient porté par les femmes nobles, parfois aussi par les guérisseurs, jusqu'au milieu du XXe siècle. Les grelots avaient une fonction musicale mais aussi esthétique et ostentatoire. Leur taille et leur nombre indiquaient le statut social de la personne. Les bracelets à trois ou cinq grelots devaient appartenir aux jeunes filles célibataires
