DescriptionBL6inchMkVIILydditeShell.jpg
Diagram of British 6 inch Mk VIIA Common Lyddite shell, 1914.
"A" denotes the shell has a 4 Calibres Radius head, as opposed to 2 C.R.H. This means the nose is longer and more pointed, hence this shell is 1.36 inches longer than the 2 C.R.H. Mk VII shell.
The shell is of the modern British high-explosive design, with the shell wall thick at the base but progressively thinner towards the nose, allowing room for more explosive.
Filled with 13 lb 5 oz Lyddite. Total weight filled & fuzed 100 lb.
Shell length 22.89 inches.
The shell has the No. 7 cupro-nickel driving band design preferred for Naval use.
For use with the following guns :-
BL 6 inch Guns Mk VII, VIII, Naval service.
BL 6 inch Gun Mk XI, Naval service.
