DescriptionArresting Gear mechanics.jpg
English: Arresting Gear crew changes a leaf spring under a cross deck pendant aboard aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. The leaf spring elevates the wire so that it can more easily be engaged by the landing aircraft tailhook. Original caption: "U.S. Sailors position a wire supports under an arresting wire aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in the Pacific Ocean March 29. The wire support lifts the arresting wire off the deck enabling an aircraft's tail hooks to catch it during landing. The Nimitz is deployed with the U.S. 7th Fleet and is conducting combined training exercises with the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Carrier Strike Group."
