  • Français : Tête d'une statue. Bronze et incrustations, vers 100. Trouvée à Délos. Musée National Archéologique, Athènes. Ce type de portrait hellénistique, du « notable » dont la notoriété n'aura durée qu'un temps et que l'on aura eu vite fait d'oublier : ainsi la tête, de grandeur naturelle, de cette statue de bronze (vers 100 AEC) trouvée à Délos est, très probablement, celle d'un portrait honorifique comme il s'en faisait très couramment à l'époque ; elles étaient souvent payées par le portraituré lui-même. Elle n'a dû rester visible que quelques décennies, cette tête ayant été jetée dans les ruines d'une palestre abandonnée. C'est un portrait particulièrement réaliste qui témoigne d'une expression presque anxieuse, ici tournée vers la gauche, courante en cette fin du IIe siècle. Les yeux, en différentes pierres, ivoire et verre, sont habituels dans la statuaire hellénistique.
