References Meet Wikipedia's Notability Standards

The previous (first) draft of this Wikipedia page was rejected for the stated reason that it did not meet the following criteria:

<< significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject>>

Each of the sources cited in the new draft is independent of the Subject person. Here is more background about the cited references:

-- The Chicago Tribune is Chicago's leading daily newspaper. The Subject person is interviewed and extensively quoted in the article, the headline of which calls the Subject's film "A daring new jazz documentary." This qualifies as significant coverage.

-- The Chicago Defender has been published since 1905, and is perhaps America's most historically distinguished African-American-owned newspaper. The Subject person is interviewed and profiled: significant coverage.

-- Axios, owned by Cox Communications (one of the largest media companies in the U.S.) has a format in which stories are kept to a 300 word maximum. The Axios article, while short, is substantial, and has a large photo portrait of the Subject person. This, too, is significant coverage.

-- The Eric Leon Harris book contains a chapter-length interview and profile of Subject person. This is significant coverage.

-- Voice of America is also a published, reliable source, independent of the Subject person.

In addition, two of the Subject person's films have their own Wikipedia pages, in which the Subject person is referenced.

Taken together, these references more than adequately meet Wikipedia's notability standards. GAWebber2 (talk) 23:09, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
