Yunsae (Hangul: 윤새, born March 14, 1995), is a South Korean independent singer, songwriter, and producer from Seoul. Her most famous single is Way to You, which peaked at number 8[1] on the Billboard Japan TikTok Weekly Top 20 Chart (2024).
Early life and education
Yunsae was born in Seoul and raised in Asan-si, Chungcheongnamdo. She started to play piano at her age of six, and used to write and sing children's songs in her elementary school days[2]. As her parents wanted her to focus on her studies, she entered Sookmyung Women's University majoring in English Language and Literature[3]. While attending college, she joined a band club and later joined an acoustic indie pop band called Mellifluous to start her music career.[citation needed] After she came across Owl City, Troye Sivan, and Lauv's songs[4], She decided to learn how to produce electronic pop music. She also works as a songwriter, participated in several idol music works.
Career
In August 2019, she released her first single "Be Your Breeze" and started her music career. Even in complete absence of promotion or marketing help, the song has reached no.5 on Bugs National Electronic Daily Chart. That made her easy to win the music contest hosted by Naver, which was a project that supported the production of the song "Stay with Me"[5]. She also participated in writing for Jeon Hyo Seong ( "starlight") and YEWON ("kidult").
In 2020, she produced a lot of singles including "Way to You", "Feeling of You", "Cool Your Mind". Late 2020, she was able to make the song "Warm Puppy" by winning a music challenge hosted by SNOW and Naver. In December, she wrote a song for LONG:D and Summer Soul called "SPACEDOG".
She released her first EP, flowerain[6], in May 2021. The EP features the single "flowerain", in which she expressed the happiness at the moment when love bloomed by each other.
In July 2021, she was chosen as KOCCA MUSE ON 2021 artists with teams such as Choi Yu-ree and W24. As it was a representative program to discover promising musicians in Korea,[7] She received support for broadcasting, radio, and concerts. She also presented single "rainbow promises", which includes the song "Our Youth" and "be my love". She also made a collaboration with SUDI ("Dive into love")
2022 she worked on several singles including "Second Date", "Call This Love," and "Paradise". She had her second collaboration with SUDI ("Welcome to my Christmas").
In Early 2023, she released the lead single "youniverse"[8] to introduce her second EP when the stars align, released on February 20. The EP features "stardust", "daydream", and "I need it to be you".
In January 2024, her single "Way to You" became sensational with TikTok background music. That song became Yunsae's first entry on the Billboard Japan TikTok Weekly Top 20 Chart[9], peaking at number 8 in January 17.
