The Puppet Co. is a nonprofit theater company based in Glen Echo Park in Glen Echo, Maryland focused on the art of puppetry.[1] It's notable for its annual production of The Nutcracker.[2]
History
The Puppet Co. has been in residency at Glen Echo Park since its founding in 1983.[3]
In 2004, the Puppet Co. Playhouse opened a 6,400-square-foot space designed exclusively for puppetry in the old arcade building of Glen Echo Park.[4]
In 2018, it was reported that The Puppet Co. "presented over 12,000 performances to a total audience of over two million individuals".[5] Founders Allan Stevens, Christopher Piper, and MayField Piper retired in 2020.[6] Currently the theatre is under the leadership of Artistic Director Elizabeth Dapo and Executive Director Isabel Dawson.[1]

The Puppet Co. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with major support from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.[1]

The Puppet Co. houses an impressive collection of puppets, including from Tony Sarg, Bil and Cora Baird, and David Wisniewski.[1]
