Mokaram Hossain (Bengali: মোকারম হোসেন; (born 30 October 1972) is a Bangladeshi science writer, editor, essayist and plant researcher. He is the Founder General Secretary of 'Tarupallab', one of the voluntary organizations for flora and nature studies, and the Executive Editor of 'Prakritipatra', a quarterly periodical on nature and environment. In 2022, he won the Bangla Academy Literary Award in Environmental Science.[1]

Early life and family

Mokaram Hossain was born on October 30, 1972 in Matulaloy in Chanua village of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district. Paternal residence is in Laxmanpur village of Chaishani Union of the same upazila. Father AKM Fazlul Karim and mother Manwara Begum. He is the youngest among 4 children of his parents. He got married in 2011. His wife Hafeza Afrin. Two children of Mokaram Hossain. Son Taishir Al Issam and daughter Tahani Rizkin.

Education and professional life

His educational career started at Chaishani Government Primary School in his parental home. Then in 1987 SSC and Choumuhani Govt S.A. from Chikhani Bhumukhi High School. Passed higher secondary from college. He completed Masters in Political Science from Jagannath University in 1996 and Diploma in Library Science from National University. During his student life, he became involved in plant service as well as writing. Joined several local newspapers and periodicals. He joined Bangladesh Shishu Academy in 1996 after finishing university studies. Then came to Bangla Academy in 2016.

Organizational Activities

Mokaram Hossain established the plant and nature practice organization 'Tarupallab' (www.tarupallab.org) with the need to inculcate the love of nature among the people of the country. Various activities were taken from 'Tarupallab' with the aim of turning the nature-averse people towards nature through mass awareness creation. Under his able leadership, 'Gach Dha Gach Chena' program is being regularly organized in different types of gardens, gardens and parks with the aim of making people of various professions sensitive towards nature and environment. Tarupallab's quarterly journal 'Prakritipatra' is published regularly under his editorship. Under his skillful management and specialized leadership, this exceptional organization of tree recognition has already been able to make an important contribution to mainstream nature practice. These multifaceted activities have anointed him a unique identity. He has been collecting rare tree saplings from different regions of the country and planting them in protected areas with the aim of speeding up tree planting activities across the country and protecting endangered species of plants from extinction. In the last two decades, he has planted over 50,000 endangered plant species in various reputed institutions of national level.

Literary

For more than 25 years, Mokaram Hossain has been writing about trees and environment awareness in all the leading dailies and periodicals of the country, as well as producing tree and environment conservation programs on various television channels. More than 500 research articles and articles written by him have been published in leading national dailies and periodicals of the country. In particular, he has been writing in the "Nature" column on the last page of Dainik Prothom Alo for almost 24 years. All in all, numerous research articles and articles on nature and environment are being published every year in various magazines and periodicals. The main focus of these writings is on the aesthetic nature, their touching narration, similarity with life, various inconsistencies, hostile environment, change of six seasons, struggling life of marginalized people, rare natural elements and sound advice and guidance on many important issues.

In 2013, 2014 and 2015 Bangladesh Postal Department published 3 stamp sets on 16 endangered species of Bangladesh flowers under the expert opinion and direct supervision of Mokarm Hossain. In May 2013, he was invited to the International Bengali Festival and Book Fair organized by the Muktdhara Foundation of America in New York and organized a photography exhibition titled Flowers of Bengal.
