Dejiang No. 1 Middle School was originally named Dejiang County Junior High School (德江县立初级中学). After the founding of the Peoples' Republic of China, it was renamed Guizhou Province Dejiang County Junior High School (贵州省德江县初级中学). In 1958, it opened a high school and was renamed Guizhou Province Dejiang Middle School (贵州省德江中学). In 1980, it was renamed Dejiang Fist High School (德江县第一中学). In 2000, it became an independent high school. In 2004, it was upgraded to a prefectural demonstration high school^[1]
