25 clubs fielded 50 teams in the five National Association (NAPBBP or NA) seasons. Six of the 25 clubs became six of eight charter members of the NL and the other 19 are not recognized as major by MLB.

• At the moment, among the six charter NL members from the NA: two are not defunct (Boston->Atlanta and Chicago); the other four do have ordinary team article/stubs in this Category:Defunct Major League Baseball teams (Athletic, Mutual, Hartford, and St. Louis Brown Stockings).
